The rights of passengers travelling by road are governed by EU Regulation 181/2011 (concerning the rights of passengers in bus and coach transport). The Regulation fully applies to long distance services (i.e. of more than 250 km), whereas only some of the provisions cover all services, including those of shorter distance.
Additionally, the following rights will be applicable to all services (beyond or below 250 km):
- Non-discrimination in tariffs and contractual conditions based on nationality.
- Non-discriminatory treatment of disabled and reduced mobility passengers, plus financial compensation for loss of or damage to their mobility equipment.
- Minimum rules on travel information – all passengers must be provided with information on their rights both before and during their journey. General information must be provided in terminals and online. Information should also, where feasible, be provided in an accessible format upon request so as to accommodate persons with reduced mobility.
