Cancelled flight

If you receive the information about a cancelled flight at the airport the airline is obliged to take you as soon as possible –  or if you wish at a later date – to your final destination or to the first point of departure. If you turn down the alternative flight you are entitled to refund of the ticket price. Additionally you have a Right to Assistance.

You may have a right to compensation. For short-distance it amounts up to 250 EUR, for medium-distance 400 EUR and for long-distance 600 EUR.  Certain technical problems resulting, in particular, from hidden manufacturing defects affecting the safety of flights or acts of sabotage or terrorism may exempt air carriers from their obligation to pay compensation

If the flight was cancelled you may ask the airline to re-route you under comparable transport conditions to your final destination at the earliest opportunity. If the flight is significantly delayed on arrival you are entitled to compensation. For further information please contact the ECC in your home country.

If your flight was cancelled the airline is obliged to give you up-to-date information about the matter and your rights. Furthermore, you are entitled to two telephone calls, telex or fax messages, or e-mails free of charge as well as meals and refreshments. If your alternative flight is expected to take off the following day you are entitled to a hotel accommodation and transport between the airport and place of accommodation.

If your flight was cancelled and you do not want to take the alternative flight you may ask for a reimbursement of the entire ticket price.
