How much compensation can I claim for a problem with my flight?

In the event of flight cancellation, long delay or denied boarding have the right to:

compensation totalling:

  • EUR 250 for all flights of 1500 kilometres or less;
  • EUR 400 for all intra-Community flights of more than 1500 kilometers, and for all other flights between 1500 and 3500 kilometres.
  • EUR 600 for all other flights.

If the carrier offered you an alternative flight with a similar schedule, the compensation may be reduced by 50%.

My flight was cancelled do I have right to something?

Regardless the cancellation was due to extraordinary circumstances or not the air carrier must offer you assistance (reimbursement or re-routing) and care (meals and/or accommodation) while you are waiting for alternative transport.

After check-in my return flight got cancelled, can I claim compensation?

Who can I contact when I think that the air carrier breached his obligations and I want to lodge a complaint?

Each Member State is obliged to designate an appropriate body to enforce Regulation No 261/2004 on its territory.

A list of these bodies is available here. Competencies of the supervisory authorities differ in every country. These authorities are not always competent to make decisions in particular disputes between carriers and passengers. Usually, the authorities have the right to apply financial sanctions in case of detected violations.
