Your checked luggage was damaged? As a passenger you may be entitled to compensation in these cases. The Montreal Convention or the Warsaw Convention system may be applicable to your journey and these Conventions govern and may limit the liability of air carriers for loss of, or delay to baggage, 1,131 Special Drawing Rights (approximately EUR 1,200; US $1,800) per passenger in most cases.
If your registered luggage was damaged you need to inform the airline within 7 days after receipt of the luggage in writing. Ask at the airport for a special form called Property Irregularity Report (PIR) to explain the damages. Your airline is obliged to hand out the form to you. For further questions please contact your ECC.
